Nick began his 25 year career in England, serving an apprenticeship with British Gas. Although British Gas furnished Nick with excellent technical knowledge and hands-on expertise, he found himself frustrated by the lack of meaningful challenges. Moving on, he established a successful business installing air-conditioning and central-heating systems, from which he advanced into a management position as an industrial engineer with a major servicing and maintenance company.
Nick moved to Canada in 1994, with new horizons and an inquiring mind, his career broadened into the world of gas testing and certification, where he earned a reputation for integrity and ingenuity. (Nick is a CSA agent). He formed a partnership in a fireside technology, consultancy, design, and certification business, which in turn catapulted him into Off The Wall Fires where he created ThermArt™, an idea which had been formulating for several years. Market response to the prototype was so positive that Nick Barber focused his energies on expanding the line. With his passion and creativity, and in concert with some like-minded friends and colleagues, he is busy expanding his vision across North America and worldwide.
Inspirations
There tend to be several themes at play prior to the conception of breakthrough art and technology. Here are comments which inventor and CEO, Nick Barber, repeatedly stressed to his team during the ThermArt™ development process:
· “My son must be able to sit in front of the fire and play safely.”
· “Let's not design another log look-alike fire stuck in a hearth.”
· “We need to explore the artistic potential of heat and flame.”
· “Simplicity is the hall-mark of good design.”
· “Do not sell a product to customers, but provide full service to a client.”
· “A beautiful fire is a centerpiece - quality is not an option.”
